DMB - Hershey Park

I'm a casual Dave Matthews fan at best, but the man and his band do put on an entertaining show. After riding 10 roller coasters and getting soaked from head to toe during the day (from rain not the waterpark), we caught his stop at Hershey park Stadium. Black Crowes opened, but I think I was upside down on the Stormchaser at that point. Something had to give.

George Carlin 1937-2008 R.I.P.

George Carlin was one of a kind.  The funniest and smartest guy in the room.  A comedian my parents listened to when they were in college,  as I would as well.  I had the great pleasure to work on the movie "Jersey Girl" with George in 2001 and he was one of the nicest guys you'd meet on set in a business where a lot of guys in his shoes are dicks.  A lot of people will miss you George.

Billy "I Stink Right Now" Wagner blows 3rd straight save

Ya gotta love Billy Wagner. Actually as a Philadelphian, you don't. So it always brings a smile to my face when I hear about Billy self-destructing up in NY. This time, blowing his 3rd save in a row. Keep up the good work buddy. You help the Phillies far more now than you ever did when you played for us.

Review > Concert > Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

I was right on the floor Friday night as I saw Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers rock the house in a packed Wachovia Center.  He ripped through many of his hits ("Free Fallin'", "Don't Come Around Here No More", "American Girl") and even busted out a few obscure tunes like "Girl on LSD" and "Cabin Down Below".  Steve Winwood joined Petty to jam on Winwood's own "Gimme Some Lovin".  It must have been 10 years since I last saw Petty, and I remember him putting on a great show, but the sound Friday night was amazing.  Hopefully he's still got some years of touring left in him despite rumors to the contrary.

Hockey? Is that still around?

I've always joked that I'd rather watch golf than hockey, which I think is just plain boring for what's supposed to be an action sport.  Tiger Woods had a great response when some asked him who he was rooting for in the NHL finals.

"I don't really care. It's all about the Dodgers. I don't think anyone really watches hockey anymore."

Well put.  I'm just looking forward to the start of the UEFA Euro 2008 this weekend.  Andiamo l'Italia!

Chase Utley: On A Tear!

Chase Utley just continues to punish pitchers and smack home run after home run lately. I think it'd be great to have a 3rd consecutive player from the Phillies win the NL MVP, but this city wants to get to the World Series and win. Make it happen Chase!

Wizard World Philly '08

I went to Wizard World Philly Saturday pretty much for the sole purpose of scoring a lot of cheap comics to fill in some gaps in my collection. Mission accomplished.  The free stuff, goofy costumes, and writer/artist panels just come with the price of admission.  Sadly, Katie Sackhoff, aka "Starbuck",  was there only Sunday.

For whatever reason, most of the people that show up to these things and dress up are overweight. This guy used it to his advantage.  Much better than a rotund Spiderman or Wonder Woman with a gut.
