Superdrag reunion shows

To some, Superdrag might be known as the one hit wonders who temporarily dwelled in MTV's buzz bin in 1996 for "Sucked Out", but for anyone who heard the rest of their debut album, Regretfully Yours, it was clear Superdrag cared not about buzz bins but rocking out. The original 4 piece played some "reunion" shows, and I caught them, in NYC with Nada Surf, and at home in Philly at the fine Johnny Brenda's. The band ripped through many songs from their debut and  2 subsequent albums much to the delight of both the NYC and Philly crowds.
Superdrag called an audible and started off their Philly show with the Husker Du slow burner, "Diane". The rest of the setlist is pictured.

Check out video I shot of the closer, "Rocket" from Johnny Brenda's on youTube.

Sucked Out!

Here's a bonus. Some footage I shot of "Sucked Out" being played by Superdrag at Johnny Brenda's in Philly and Terminal 5 in NYC  on my camera (not video camera, so forgive the non-professional audio quality).

N.A. Kickers

So it's 3 English clubs (Man U, Chelsea, & Liverpool) and Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League semifinals. I'd like to see a Liverpool v. Barcelona final, with Liverpool winning it all, redeeming the loss to AC Milan in last year's final.

This picture is of Roma's De Rossi shitting the bed from 11 meters out on a free kick.

>>>> I'm geared up for seeing Superdrag & Nada Surf in NYC Friday night, and Superdrag again on Saturday here in Philly.  Hopefully I'll have some pics and video, but no promises.

>>>>I'm speeding through the DVDs for first season of Showtime's The Tudors right now.  Entertaining, if not predictable in some places.  It mainly makes me miss Rome, HBO's far superior epic on the rise of the Roman Empire.

Review > Comic > Secret Invasion #1

I picked up Marvel's big summer crossover series, Secret Invasion #1 last week to check out the hype.  I generally don't buy Marvel comics anymore, and it's nothing against the company.  I grew up on DC comics and just enjoy their characters more. If I had an unlimited of time and money, it wouldn't even be an issue, but I digress.

Secret Invasion did they job it was supposed to do and hooked me for presumably the whole series.  After all, if I am only going to get 1 Marvel book, why not get one that has practically every one of their heroes.  The premise is simple, and if you watch Battlestar Galactica, very familiar.  Much of the mystery and paranoia in BSG is about who is a Cylon?  In Secret Invasion, the question is "Who is a Skrull?"  The Skrulls are ugly looking aliens that can mimic any shape, like John Carpenter's The Thing, though most are posing as heroes.

A more avid Marvel fan might have some more to praise or grip about, but it was definitely enjoyable despite the $3.99 cover price (damn I remember paying 75 cents as comic as a kid!) And it did have an awesome splash page near the end of the book that threw me (and many others) for a loop.

Battlestar Returns!

I stayed in this past Friday night, foregoing any social activity and geeked out to the season premiere of Battlestar Galactica. Unless it's a new episode of Lost, I can't think of another show that's worth getting excited about, and the start of BSG's 4th and final season definitely did not disappoint. During the next 9 weeks, do not call me between 10-11pm Fridays. Now for some snazzy BSG videos.

Review > Comic > All Star Superman #10

This book comes out like every 3 months but it is always worth the wait. Writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely do a superb job once again. The great thing about this book is that it is outside the normal Superman continuity and anybody with a basic understanding of the characters can jump aboard and greatly enjoy it without feeling like they need to know 70 years of  history.  Superman's humanity is just as important to these stories as who he is battling.

In this issue, Superman drafts a last will and testament.  Yes,  Superman is dying. We see a lot of what Superman does on a day to day basis (short, powerful scenes like visiting a kids' cancer ward and saving a suicide jumper). The word is that the series is only going to #12.  I hope we get more than 2 more issues of All Star Superman, but if not, Morrison & Quitely have left a great legacy.

"Flash" Gordon rocked

I had tickets to yesterday's Phillies season opener, but for work reasons missed the game. Was that a rerun of a 2007 game? Brad Lidge, we need you to start closing for us ASAP, and for you to be lights out.
