Review > Comic > Secret Invasion #1

I picked up Marvel's big summer crossover series, Secret Invasion #1 last week to check out the hype.  I generally don't buy Marvel comics anymore, and it's nothing against the company.  I grew up on DC comics and just enjoy their characters more. If I had an unlimited of time and money, it wouldn't even be an issue, but I digress.

Secret Invasion did they job it was supposed to do and hooked me for presumably the whole series.  After all, if I am only going to get 1 Marvel book, why not get one that has practically every one of their heroes.  The premise is simple, and if you watch Battlestar Galactica, very familiar.  Much of the mystery and paranoia in BSG is about who is a Cylon?  In Secret Invasion, the question is "Who is a Skrull?"  The Skrulls are ugly looking aliens that can mimic any shape, like John Carpenter's The Thing, though most are posing as heroes.

A more avid Marvel fan might have some more to praise or grip about, but it was definitely enjoyable despite the $3.99 cover price (damn I remember paying 75 cents as comic as a kid!) And it did have an awesome splash page near the end of the book that threw me (and many others) for a loop.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5
